Rekindle, Rewind (2023)

‘Rekindle, rewind’ explores time and telecommunication mediums through the lens of historical and modern technologies. In this work, the artist’s discovery of the VHS tape ‘Geleideing in Kristallen’ demonstrating the fundamental process of crystal conduction in semiconductor manufacturing plays a central role.

The work consists of four films displayed on screens, accompanied by a found print from the archive illustrating various televisions revolving around an integrated circuit: The film of the artist operating a VHS recorder to play the original film, ‘Geleideing in Kristallen’; The speakers playing the audio of the original film; The surrounded scenery of the NXP archive while the original film is being played; and lastly, the original film.

The artist attempts to employ historical audiovisual machines from the archive to playfully bring the diverse aspects of the crucial technology that influenced time-based media, bridging the past and the present.
